Humans have a need to sing! Even if we are deaf, the vibrations from our voice can bathe our bones, organs and glands in life giving frequencies. The sounds can stimulate our brain with uplifting endorphins and boost our immune system. In this respect, matching pitch, tonal memory, or rhythmic accuracy are not descriptors of “good” singing. Regardless of the level of musicianship or state of health, curiosity, playfulness, and physical sensation augment vocal quality. When we are moved to sing, it is not so much what we sing or with what degree of artistic sophistication. It is simply that we sing.
Exhale all of your breath and wait for your body to breathe.
As you inhale, feel the release and impulse to breathe deep within your core.
Draw inspiration from the environment around you, not only in terms of oxygen but also with regard for creative expression.
Exhale with any sound that feels true to the present moment:
- if you’re tired, sigh
- if you’re happy, laugh
- if you’re pensive, hum
- if you’re longing, moan
- if you’re radiant, sing full out
May your voice be a source of radiance for self and others today!
