Question:
I love singing, but mucus builds up and I have to spit it out between singing; it’s so embarrassing. What can I do? I’ve had three allergy shots a week, toldĀ to drink 90 ounces of water a day, and rest. I sound even worse in my own home. What can I do?
Answer:
I’m sorry for your problem. I’ve had one student, a doctor, with excess phlegm and he was unable to solve the issue. You have to try to find what causes it. In my case it was red meat and poultry. When I stopped eating those things my allergies and excess mucus resolved. The cause might be food, environment or chemical. Trying to treat the symptom when it is this extreme can be difficult. There might be a medication that stops the production, but it might also dehydrate or irritate the voice and surrounding membranes. I’m sorry not to be more help and wish you all the best.
